There is a good trail leading to three gorgeous lakes in Big Cottonwood Canyon, east of Salt Lake City. It's a steep hike. You gain over 2700 feet in about three miles. You can access Dromedary & Sundial Peaks from Lake Blanche. Lake Blanche is only one of three lakes up there. You can also get to Lake Florence and Lake Lillian. There is a trail linking all three of them together. Also, you can hike up the east trail to access the overlook into Mineral Fork and even up to Superior. This area provides some incredibly beautiful views. You'll also see a variety of wildlife including deer, moose, snakes, varieties of birds. This area provides one of the most beautiful views of Sundial Peak as shown in this image. This is one of my favorite images. I planned to arrive at the lake in time to capture this perfect sunset on the glassy water and do a little fishing. This meant that I would have to hike down to my car starting after the fall of darkness. I didn't make it down until almost midnight and it just about did me in. It's a difficult hike in the daytime. In the dark it's even worse. Photo
