I got up close and personal with Upper Falls in Provo Canyon in Utah this morning. It's a short steep hike and the falls are great. This shot was taken at 16mm, 6 seconds, ISO:50, f/18 From Provo Canyon, one exit further up the canyon from Bridal Veil Falls, you will find the Upper Falls turnoff. At the parking lot, cross the bridge to Provo River Parkway. The Upper Falls Trail is found behind the concrete ruins of a pump station along the paved parkway. The trail is really steep but short and well worth the exertion. It climbs about 400 ft in about .4 mile. It is not always easily followed due to several offshoot trails and their erosional impact. Follow the main path until you reach the foot of Upper Falls. The view of the falls is spectacular at any time of year. These beautiful falls reach upward several levels to offer a breathtaking sight. This 40 ft waterfall is, in fact, one of a set of falls that tumble down the rugged and steep limestone terraces of Davis Canyon. From the highway, you can see the full cascades better. It looks like the lower cascade may have once powered some kind of mill, based on the concrete foundation and debris at the base of the falls.
