Rock Canyon is a gnarly trail east of Provo Utah. As winter set in I decided to venture up there on a recent afternoon. I had not hiked this canyon for at least 50 years so it was good to get back to my old, old stomping ground. I had forgotten how varied the rock formations are in this interesting stretch of mountains. I even found a couple of very interesting caves along my way. This time I only hiked up about three miles into the canyon. The last time I hiked this trail as a boy I hiked all the way to the top and back down the other side to South Fork in Provo Canyon. Rock Canyon offers wonderful views of the jagged peaks and rugged canyon. The trail climbs steadily over 3.4 miles, crossing a stream several times. Rock Canyon can provide a great half-day hike or ride. The trail continues up to the Squaw Peak road and then connects to the Rock Canyon-Dry Fork.
