Antelope Canyon is a stunningly beautiful erosion-created crack in the earth about 120 feet deep, although it doesn't feel that deep when you are walking through it. This image was taken in June to ensure that the sunlight would becoming almost straight down into the slot canyon. Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land southeast of Page, Arizona and when I want there it was across the road from a very large coal-fired power plant called the Navajo Generating Station. It includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack, and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew). The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Ts� bigh�n�l�n�, which means 'the place where water runs through rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistaz� (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Because of the beauty of this place it has pretty much been ruined by the crowds that infest it now. When I went we arranged for a private photographic tour from the Navajo guides who manage it. They were amazing and made our experience as perfect as it could be. I don't think I will ever go there again so the images I captured that day are even more important to me than ever.
