I had seen images of this idyllic setting for years. I added it to my photographic bucket list and finally traveled there in 2018 to shoot it. This was the focal point of a ten-day trip that included Rome to see the newly constructed Rome LDS Temple, Austria to see David and Tammy Thayne who were then serving a mission there, Zurich Switzerland, and Paris. We planned to arrive in Ranui in mid-afternoon, giving us plenty of time to scout ideal locations and set up. It was a perfect afternoon and I could tell that the clouds and the light were going to be just right. I took over 1500 images that night and could go back tomorrow for more. What a beautiful place! The church of San Giovanni in Ranui is nestled in the Puez Geissler Odle mountains and is part of the Ranui Hof property and stands out in the green meadows surrounding the farm. The small church of Ranui in the heart of the beautiful Dolomitic mountain landscape is certainly one of the most beautiful sites of South Tyrol, Italy. It features a steep-pitched roof covered with shingles, a three-sided choir and a bell tower standing at the north-eastern corner of the building, whose onion dome covered in copper is crowned by a star. The facade of the entrance is richly decorated and has a fresco depicting the church�s patron saint. It was built in 1744. Joseph Anton Jenner had the small church built.
